Estio Training have an exciting new opportunity for an IT Support and Software Developer Apprentice with Ralph Thoresby School a Foundation 11-18 School based in Leeds.
Job Description:
The successful candidate will join a team from both Ralph Thoresby and Benton Park Schools working to develop and maintain the software side of the IT facility and Data & Information systems, including the development of software to streamline and improve systems, saving time and providing high quality solutions to improve the operation of systems within both schools. The successful candidate will be supervised by the Overall Project Leader and Operational Data and Systems Lead and will work closely with the Overall Network Manager. As with all members of the team, the successful candidate will have routine tasks to carry out, including providing IT support when the Network Manager is off site.
Your duties and responsibilities in this role will consist of:
- To assist the Data & IT Systems Manager in developing new software to automate and streamline data, information and IT maintenance systems.
- To disseminate and train other members of the team in the use of simple algorithms using Visual Studio .NET and SQL Server
- To assist with the IT support team and gain familiarity with the hardware and software environment including M365, to integrate these into bespoke software solutions developed in house.
- To assist with Data Team tasks as appropriate and gain familiarity with the MIS and its ability to integrate with bespoke software solutions.
- To configure and maintain the hardware and software development environment.
- To be an integral part of the Data and IT support teams carrying out any team duties as specified by the Data & IT systems manager.
Qualifications:
5 GCSEs grades A*-C/9-4 or equivalent (including English Language and Maths)
Level 3 qualification in IT with programming content.
Skills Required:
- Familiarity and use of basic IT hardware and advanced software including M365, Office Apps.
- Good communication skills both as a team player and a potential trainer.
- Good numeracy and logic skills.
- Ability to evaluate operational problems and consider viable solutions to address them.

- Reliability and versatility.
- Attention to detail.
- Patience and persistence.
Future prospects:
The role will likely offer a permanent role upon completion of the apprenticeship depending on performance.

Successful completion of this apprenticeship gives you an accredited Level 4 Software Developer, with training in how to:
- Create logical and maintainable codes for software development.
- Apply security best practice to the software solution throughout the software development life cycle.
- Apply appropriate recovery techniques to ensure the software solution being developed is not lost.
- Implement accurate and effective change control.
- Undertake unit testing of solutions, with appropriate levels of test code coverage, to identify and resolve issues.
- Apply suitable ‘bug fixes’ based on severity and priority.
