We like to think that our apprentices are experts at going above and beyond their learning schedules with Estio and we often are asked about resources that apprentices can use if they’d like to revise outside of work and their apprenticeship training. While we do provide our own online courses with our custom VLE which are given to apprentices upon starting their apprenticeship, we’ve compiled a list of our favourite external resources to check out for those who just can’t stop learning!
Sidenote: Even if you’re on the lookout for an apprenticeship but haven’t quite found the right fit for you, if you have some external qualifications such as the ones listed below it shows your true passion for IT and interest in the subject to your potential employer. This all works in an effort to make you stand out from the crowd.
Here they are in no particular order…

For our apprentices who work in marketing, we’ve got some great online tools for you to use too!
Google’s Digital Garage – Now, we all know the struggle with SEO and getting your company’s website listed at the very top of Google’s search results, right? Well, fear no more! Google have designed their own, free, walk through and tutorial of SEO and more general marketing rules of thumb that you should follow for easier, effective marketing!
Hootsuite University- Another site for the marketers out there. Hootsuite University is an online course that is technically free… However if you’re looking for a certificate that you can slap on your CV and show proof to potential employers, it’s going to set you back around £150 – maybe take this into consideration before taking the course. The course however is great if you’re simply looking to expand your knowledge and aren’t too fussed about that piece of paper in the end.
Technical apprentices may find these next sites useful!
Future Learn – Partnering with universities across the world, this website is targeted towards our more technical apprentices. Partnering with top universities such as Penn State, The University of Leeds, The Open University and King’s College London you’re sure to get informative and rounded free courses.
Professor Messer – This website provides quality technology information and training, including specialized training courses for CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, and Nmap. Great for any apprentices taking on a course with a CompTIA exam!
Finally, to round off the free courses you can enrol in, Udemy is a great site that covers all IT subjects. Whether that’s Social Media/Digital Marketing, Infrastructure, Networking, Cyber Security, Project Management or Software Development; you can find it all on there. Some of the courses Udemy offer are paid only so be sure to really have a look to find the free ones!
There’s a time and a place to blend in, but searching for an apprenticeship definitely isn’t the time. The information potentially standing between you and a brilliant employer is right in front of your eyes – is it time for you to stand out?
