Job Description:
Micro Nav is the world’s leading provider of air traffic control simulation solutions with 35+ years of experience and a solid background of trust within the industry. Our technology is used in multiple locations in over 45 countries – when you fly, it is highly likely the air traffic controller speaking with your pilot trained on our system! Want to be a part of that?
Based in our Bournemouth offices at least 3 days per week, you will start your Apprenticeship with us between May and August 2025. You will be part of our 75-strong workforce, working in an agile scrum team developing world-class, bespoke simulation software for global customers using your technical abilities and industry knowledge. The QA Engineer will be fully immersed into manual test activities on our primary product covering all activities to build exposure to complement and add to their learning.
At the end of the apprenticeship we would hope to employ the candidate on a permanent basis.
Role Summary:
This role is the entry point for a Software Quality Assurance career at Micro Nav.
In return for commitment and an eagerness to learn, Micro Nav will provide training, mentoring and experience to develop the individual’s skills as an Engineer.
The engineer will test software for BEST, covering all activities to build exposure commensurate with their prior learning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Complete assigned tasks in accordance with the given requirements to a time scale and quality suitable for customer use.
- Problem solving, reviewing, fault finding, testing, documentation.
- Accurate and timely reporting of progress and impediments.
- Attend all lessons and pass exams required of the scheme.
- Assists in creation of Test Specifications.
- Assists and reviews ATS (Acceptance Test Script) development.
- Works on customer facing based projects.
Qualifications:
- Educational Requirements: 5 GCSEs grades A*-C/9-4 or equivalent, including English Language and Maths.
Skills Required & Personal Qualities:
- Knowledge of the complete Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
- Knowledge and use of the Windows family of operating systems.
- Working knowledge of the Office suite of software.
- Ability to communicate effectively in the spoken and written forms with other team members and other department representatives.
Future Prospects:
At the end of the apprenticeship we would hope to employ the candidate on a permanent basis.

Training to be provided:
Estio apprenticeship training programmes are delivered virtually by our fully qualified and industry experienced training team. Using their expert knowledge, we’ve purposefully built our programmes around the real-world use of modern technology, so that the skills we create can be directly applied in the workplace.
Throughout the apprenticeship learners receive coaching, help and guidance from a dedicated team who are there to ensure they get the most from their work experience.
Successful completion of this apprenticeship gives you an accredited Level 4 Software Tester, with training in how to:
- Ensure that the software used within your business operates as intended.
- Design and prepare test plans and conduct software testing as appropriate to ensure your software is fit for purpose.
- Collect and interpret the results of testing and make appropriate recommendations.
- Understand the software lifecycle and apply software development practices.
- Document and report test results.
- Store, manage and share test data in a secure manner.
