What is an apprenticeship?

Who can apply?

Anyone aged 16+, living in England, and not in full-time education.
School leavers, career changers, adults. You’re all welcome.

Do apprentices get paid?

Yes. Apprentices are paid employees, with a legal minimum salary and often higher depending on the employer.

Do I need experience?

No. Motivation matters more than experience. You’ll be trained from day one.

How many hours will I work?

Most apprentices work 30–40 hours per week. This includes time spent on training.

Is an apprenticeship full-time?

Yes. An apprenticeship is a full-time job with learning built in.

How long does an apprenticeship take?

Typically 12–24 months, depending on the level and programme.

What qualifications do I need?

Minimum entry requirements vary by level, but most require:

  • GCSE English

  • GCSE Maths OR

  • A willingness to complete Functional Skills during the programme

Do I have to study English and Maths?

Only if you haven’t already achieved GCSEs.
If needed, you’ll complete Functional Skills Level 2 during your apprenticeship — at no extra cost.

Can apprenticeships lead to higher-level qualifications?

Absolutely. You can climb through:
