Estio Training have an exciting new opportunity for an ICT Data Technician Apprentice with West Berkshire Council. This role will be based in their Market Street offices in Newbury with potential to work from home part of the time.

You will be taught skills aligned to the British Computer Society (BCS) Level 3 Data Technician role:

In addition to a thorough grounding in data and analytics, this role will manage the day to day running of the Council’s Natural Language Processing (NLP) Chatbot, working with key stakeholders to deliver more focused content and develop integrations into Council systems delivered from the Bot.

Our Apprenticeship scheme provides a perfect way to earn a wage while you gain vital work experience and a nationally recognised qualification. You will be fully supported and mentored through your apprenticeship and be given protected time to complete your course work. The scheme is designed for individuals who are living and entitled to work in England and are not in full-time education. When you’ve finished, we’ll help you to find a permanent role.
The role will initially report to the Application Support Manager (MSc Data Science) but may also be supervised by other members of the team.
- Your duties and responsibilities in this role will consist of:
- Develop competencies in line with the BCS Data Technician role
- Use analytics to work with key stakeholder departments to improve the data quality of their Bot and website content.
- Train the NLP engine of the Bot to deliver meaningful interactions for our customers
- Work with our suppliers to deliver improvements to the Bot in line with the Bot Roadmap
- Gather data and produce dashboards to demonstrate the efficacy of the Bot and suggest areas for improvement
- Liaise with suppliers to resolve issues with the Bot as they arise.
- Develop integrations from the Bot to external systems via Application programming Interfaces (APIs).
- Work on analytics based systems supported by the applications team
- Promote equality as an integral part of the role, treating everyone with fairness and dignity.
- Comply with WBC health and safety policies, procedures and rules, taking reasonable care of self and others.
- Adhere to the standards set out in the WBC competency framework.
Qualifications:
- 5 GCSEs grades A*-C/9-4 or equivalent (including English Language and Maths)
- A Level grade C or above in Computing, Statistics or Mathematics
- Level 2 or Equivalent in English and Mathematics
Skills Required:
Essential:
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
Desirable:
- Experience of handling customer enquiries, resolving queries face to face, on the phone and in writing
- Experience of writing software for personal or project use
- Understanding of modern programming languages e.g. Python, JavaScript
- Ability to use Outlook, and a web browser to access information
- Basic ability to use Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint etc)

This role has been identified as public facing in accordance with Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016, and therefore the ability to fulfill all spoken aspects of the role with confidence in English will be required. Conversing at ease with members of the public (including pupils), providing advice and using any specialist terminology appropriate to the role is essential for the post

Successful completion of this apprenticeship gives you an accredited Level 3 Data Technician, with training in how to:
- Identify the right data sources for your business to inform decision making.
- Collect, compile and cleanse data accurately and securely.
- Identify, anaylse and interpret data, trends and patterns.
- Produce dashboards and reports to aid visualization and comparison.
- Summarise and present the results of data analysis, making recommendations for business improvement.
- Store and archive data in line with data protection legislation.
